September Tree Planting

A trip to Lowe’s for lumber ended up instead with a car full of trees. Fall is a great time to plant trees. Lots of water, not too hot, and great sales. We were able to get more than 50% of some great tree specimens. This morning I went out and picked some of the leaves from our trees. The first leaf is from the Sun Valley Red Maple

We know how to fill our jeep full of trees. Four to be exact and Four hydrangeas.

It’s common to see us with branches sticking out of windows.

This summer we had a number of post holes to be dug. Instead of digging all those holes by hand we picked up this gas powered auger from harbor freight. We also learned it’s a great hole digger when you’re planting lots of bushes and trees.

We went with superstition this planting session and placed a potato in the bottom of our hole. Have any of you’ve done that before?

The Sun Valley Maple found it’s home in the backyard near a maple we planted last year. Hopefully one day it will be a red lined pathway to our trails outback.

The White Dogwood should grow up to be a stunner. He was placed in the yoga garden. Framed opposite from the wrought iron gate. Our yoga platform got some love this year too. Stay tuned on that project.

The American Persimmon was placed strategically to hopefully help block our garden in the coming years from some intense afternoon heat. It’s suppose to get a golden color. Not so much yet this year. This autumn the colors in WNY haven’t been super vibrant. Fingers crossed for next year.

A batch of sumac behind the barn give us some privacy from the neighbors. Who wants sumac in their lawn though? We started to plant some redbud in front of the sumac. Next year maybe some more… until the pretty trees grow up and we can knock down the sumac.
