A cobbler was once a skilled craftsman who repaired shoes, and today, their benches can be found in antique stores. These benches often have a seat for the cobbler, along with little drawers and slots to store tools. Now, they make perfect display pieces or unique tables, ideal for a dining room or living room. Cobbler’s benches can range in price on eBay from $130 to $595, depending on their condition and history.
My parents gifted us this beautiful bench from Country Woods for our 4th wedding anniversary, and it fits perfectly in our living room. The best part? It’s signed by “S.W. Carley” from Chatham, NY, in 1940. I wonder if S.W. Carley is still around?
A cobbler’s bench is a great solution for a living room table, offering a rustic charm with functionality. The drawers underneath are perfect for storing magazines (or maybe some Pez!), while the small compartments can be used for coasters to protect the finish.
Ours has a lovely detail, and although I’ve thought about replacing the drawer knob, I kind of like its worn, rustic look—it gives the piece character!
