Cinnamon Scones

A Blustery snowy winter day awaited us this morning. Weather forecasters warned us all last week of the impending snow and cold temperatures. It is brutal out there. Of course, this is the day our snowblower decided to die. Luckily, my dad drove up in this cold on his tractor and did 95% of the driveway for us. Bruce had to shovel out the last 5%. BRRRR.

I spent most of the day wrangling our wooden blinds to fit our windows. Yes, it’s taken me years to cut the blind bottoms and match the height of our windows. Being trapped in the house seemed like a good time to tackle the living room windows. Why, it took hours. I have no idea but they are complete and I feel a sense of accomplishment.

At night, while we read I’ve been making a pot of tea for us. Actually using our teapot. Savoring… That one little step putting it in a teapot and pulling the cups and saucers is worth it when you have the time. So with that in mind, I thought it best to perfect my scone recipe. This recipe worked well and was a forgiving dough. I will be playing with flavors in the future but with this one I just used cinnamon.

Cinnamon Scone Recipe

PREP TIME: 15 mins | COOK TIME: 12 mins | TOTAL TIME: 27 mins|nSERVINGS: 12 scones |CALORIES: 224 kcal


  • 2 cup Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp Cream of Tartar
  • 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Stevia
  • 1 tbsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 cup Shortening
  • 2/3 cup Milk
  • 1 tbsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp Sugar


  • 1 cup Confectioner Sugar
  • 1-1/2 tbsp Milk
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon


Preheat Oven to 425.

Add all the ingredients for the dough in your mixer. Mix all ingredients until incorporated.

Roll out to 1/2″ to an 1″ thick depending on how big you want your scones. I did a 1/2″. Thicker dough will mean probably 6-8 scones.

I used the top of a canning jar to make my scones. Simple and easy.

Place on parchment lined baking sheets. Sprinkle a little cinnamon and sugar on top of them if you like. In the oven it goes for 12 minutes.

Whip up the icing in a small mixing bowl and drizzle on the tops. I cut mine in half and placed whipped cream in the middle because well I can and it was yummy! 


Icing- I actually used coconut milk, monk fruit, cinnamon and stevia. Now I only did this because I’m trying to be good and keep my sugar lower. So by all means use it if you need to keep that in mind otherwise go all sugar! I will live vicariously through you!
