  Introducing the All Hallows Oracle

  There was always something magical about a paper fortune teller.

  A square of paper, a few folds, some numbers and the delicious possibility that something unexpected might be waiting underneath the final flap.

  But the story behind my All Hallows Oracle actually began years before I folded the first one.

  When I first started painting again, I surprised friends and family with hand-painted Halloween postcards. Each was painted in watercolor and gouache, with a little story from Wesleyville written on the back. They became tiny glimpses into this strange and whimsical world I was creating—filled with autumn moons, ravens, pumpkins, black cats and the characters who inhabited it.

  I loved those little paintings, and I tucked the idea of them away.

  For the 2026 Paper Alchemy Collection, four of those original Halloween postcard paintings have found a new life. They now appear on the outside of the All Hallows Oracle, bringing a little piece of Wesleyville into this new bit of paper magic.

  

  The idea came from another bit of nostalgia: the paper fortune tellers we made as children.

  There was something irresistible about slipping one over your fingers, choosing a color or picture, spelling it out, picking a number and wondering what would be waiting underneath that final flap.

  I wanted to revisit that childhood ritual—but imagine what it might have looked like if it had been discovered tucked inside an old apothecary drawer sometime in October.

  The result is the All Hallows Oracle.

  Part greeting card, part paper game and part tiny piece of Halloween folk art, the oracle begins with four of my original Wesleyville paintings: Raven, Pumpkin, Moon and Black Cat.

  Choose an image.

  Spell its name while opening and closing the folded paper.

  Choose a number.

  Then another.

  Finally, lift the flap.

  Your fortune is waiting underneath.

  And because I apparently can’t resist sneaking little details into my artwork, look closely at the numbers. The 8 is actually a rather scary little snake.

  I detest snakes.

  Truly.

  But I have to admit, he seemed perfectly at home in a Halloween fortune teller, so he was allowed to stay.

  There are eight fortunes hidden inside the oracle. I wanted them to feel mysterious without being ominous—little pieces of wisdom about courage, kindness, change, opportunity and trusting ourselves as one season gives way to another.

  Perhaps the raven will remind you:

  “A raven will not bring misfortune, only the truth you’ve been avoiding. Welcome it in.”

  Perhaps you’ll be told to trust the path disappearing beneath the fallen leaves.

  Or perhaps you’ll discover:

  “By the glow of an October moon, you will discover that some shadows exist only to reveal light.”

  One of my favorites reads:

  “What seems to be an ending is merely the season turning its page. Your next chapter has already been written.”

  Each All Hallows Oracle is created from my original artwork, printed in my Western New York studio and assembled by hand. Folded, it measures approximately 3.75 inches square and comes with its own coordinating envelope and illustrated instructions.

  You can mail one to a friend in place of a traditional Halloween card, tuck one into a gift, use several as Halloween party favors or leave one at each place setting for an autumn dinner.

  Or keep one for yourself.

  What began years ago as little hand-painted Halloween postcards sent to friends and family has found its way back into my work in an entirely unexpected form.

  Which, when I think about it, seems rather appropriate for a fortune teller.

  After all, you never know when you might need to ask the raven.
