In 1961, artist Merrill Coffin began a cherished tradition—designing one-of-a-kind Christmas cards for his friends and clients. This book gathers those creations into a collection lovingly restored to honor their original beauty.
Many of the cards featured here once belonged to my Great-Grandmother Lily, who carefully wrote the names of each recipient in blue ink. While some age spots and yellowing were gently retouched, I preserved the authentic feel of the linen paper whenever possible, allowing Merrill’s artistry to shine through just as it did decades ago.
The history included in these pages comes from a school report written by Merrill’s youngest daughter, Tabetha Butler, offering a glimpse into the man behind the artwork.
Compiled by Elizabeth Gleason, granddaughter of the artist, this collection celebrates both a family legacy and a timeless tradition of art and holiday spirit.
