I’ve been working with the Scandinavian Folk Festival since March, designing posters, ads, and postcards you may have seen in earlier updates. This past weekend was the big event, so I grabbed Bruce and my mom for our very first trip to the festival.
We were immediately struck by the beauty of the MayPole and the flowers surrounding it—so much so that my mom was joking about how to fit both the MayPole and a Dala Horse into her garden.

One of the most surreal moments for me was seeing my design recreated on t-shirts by Gale Svenson-Campbell of Expressive Apparel. Everywhere I looked, people were wearing my artwork—it felt like everyone had raided my closet! After spending 60+ hours on that design, it was both odd and exciting to see it come to life in that way. (And yes… I forgot to grab a shirt for myself!) Instead, I treated myself to a beautiful antique silver Swedish platter. Because, of course, they had antiques!
The day was hot and steamy, but a Lingonberry cocktail and a steady breeze helped as we enjoyed music, dancing, and the incredible atmosphere. We missed the full MayPole dance performance, but thankfully someone posted it to Facebook—I’ll be sure not to miss it next year.
