Fireball Applesauce

In the midst of Western New York apple season, you can find apples strewn on the ground and in the trees. Bees and wasps circle the apples with their last ditch effort to enjoy a taste of sugar before the frost hits. Last week, Bruce and I grabbed a market bag and walked down to my parent’s orchard. We spent our lunch going from tree to tree picking five apples from each tree. We had a variety of apples of all shapes and colors. I enjoy using all the varieties to create a kaleidoscope of texture and flavor in our applesauce. Feel free to omit the Cinnamon Whiskey if you choose. Our applesauce was being served at our Saturday Cocktail party.

Our apples may look rough on the outside compared to what you see at the grocery store. We’re all good with that because there’s no spray, wax or chemicals on our apples. Perfect on the inside is what we care about.

Fireball Applesauce Recipe


  • 5 to 6 lbs Apples
  • 3/4 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Cinnamon
  • 3 oz Cinnamon Whiskey

Peel and core Apples.

Place all the ingredients except the Cinnamon Whiskey into the slow cooker for 8 hours. Mash the Apples with a masher halfway through cooking and stir.

Stir in Cinnamon Whiskey before serving. May be served warm or cold or frozen.
