So come on my journey while I dabble in oil painting. I’ve always been bemused with oils. They seemed like an unattainable goal. During college, I never was taught oil painting. The painting classes I had weren’t very helpful. We met twice a week and painted and critiqued each other’s work. Some of my pieces were shown in student shows and juried shows. This was only on pure luck and not on any gained craftsmanship. In the last month, I’ve learned more than I had in a full semester.
I’m committing to create regularly and slowly learn the skills that I missed out in college. Maybe not daily painting but that’s the goal.
Right now, I’m working on small paintings on wood boards in one sitting ~ Alla Prima. I may change this up as I grow but for now I want to focus on the looseness of it. I’m a graphic designer and work on the computer 8 hours a day since 2000. I need to get a little loose and not be so vectorized and perfect.
My first online class is the above working on tonal. So first painting complete onto the next.
