Bentley Hart – Rabbit Oil Painting

Our house always has bunnies hopping here and there.

They dart through the yard at dusk, pause beneath the apple trees, and sometimes freeze mid-hop as if listening for secrets carried on the wind. Because of that, rabbits hold a special place in my heart — they feel like quiet companions to everyday life here.

Bentley Hart was painted in one of those gentle, in-between moments when evening settles over the fields and everything softens.

This original oil painting was created using an alla prima technique — painted wet-on-wet in a single session. I love this method because it keeps the work loose and alive, allowing brushstrokes to stay visible and expressive. Bentley emerged naturally from the paint, his bright eye catching the last light as grasses fade into twilight.

On the back of the painting, I wrote his story:

“Twilight was coming to the glen. The fireflies had just started their nightly adventures while Bentley hopped home. He was out later than he should have been because he had found an enchanted waterfall tucked away in a copse of trees. He had been foraging when he ventured a little further than he had ever gone before. The view was enchanting, the rushing currents, the water flowing over craggy rocks into a crystal clear basin below.”

Every wood panel painting I create carries these small narratives. The sides and back are painted a soft blue, and each piece includes a handwritten story and my signature — a personal touch meant to connect you directly to the artwork.
