A Moment Suspended in Summer

There are moments in the garden that feel almost too fleeting to hold—just a shimmer of movement, a flicker of wings, and then they’re gone. Hummingbird Nectar was born from one of those moments.

In the height of summer, when the garden is heavy with blooms and fragrance, hummingbirds arrive like tiny, living jewels. They move with purpose and delight, drawn from flower to flower—beebalm, honeysuckle, wisteria—each offering a small sweetness. Watching them feels like witnessing something both ordinary and magical at once.

This painting was created alla prima, in a single sitting, allowing that sense of immediacy to remain. The brushstrokes are loose, alive, and responsive—just like the subject itself. There’s no overworking, no hesitation. Only the attempt to capture that quick, luminous dance before it disappears.

The deep, dark background was intentional. It allows the flowers to glow and the hummingbird to emerge as if from shadow—much like how they appear in real life, sudden and radiant against the green hush of the garden.

The story written on the back reflects the heart of the piece: a garden transformed into a place of harmony, where scent, color, and movement come together. The hummingbird becomes more than a subject—it becomes a quiet symbol of joy, presence, and the beauty of small, passing things.

This piece is part of the Floral & Plumage Collection, where nature’s details are both observed and imagined—woven together into something that feels like memory.
