A Card Inspired by the Quiet Beauty of Fall

Autumn has always been a season of reflection — a time when fields settle, gardens soften, and the landscape turns to warm tones of gold, rust, and amber. It’s the season when nature seems to pause just long enough for us to notice the richness of what surrounds us.

Autumn’s Grateful Bloom, part of my Folklore Tapestry Collection, was created to celebrate that moment.

This greeting card is inspired by traditional folk art and the storytelling language of the harvest season. The design weaves together elements often found in autumn fields and hedgerows — mums in bloom, curling leaves, ripe berries, pumpkins, and a regal pheasant moving through the landscape. Each detail was drawn and painted to evoke the feeling of an old harvest tapestry, where nature, gratitude, and folklore intertwine.

At the heart of the illustration is the pheasant, a bird long associated with countryside traditions and the changing seasons. Its richly patterned feathers echo the colors of autumn foliage, while the surrounding mums and vines create a sense of movement and abundance. The design feels almost like a garden winding across the page — blooming, drifting, and settling as the season turns.

Inside the card is a short verse that honors the quiet gratitude that autumn brings:

By mums in bloom and pheasants flight,
We honor autumn’s golden light.

With grateful hearts, we speak our cheer,
For bounty, love, and those held dear.

Mums unfold, bright blessings grow,
Pheasants soar where winds may blow.

In thanks, we walk this sacred ground,
Where beauty, peace and joy abound.

The words were written to capture the spirit of harvest time — that sense of appreciation for the small things: shared meals, changing leaves, warm gatherings, and the simple beauty of the natural world.

Printed in the United States on luxurious uncoated matte paper with a soft eggshell texture, the card has a natural, tactile quality that feels timeless and elegant. The paper is thick, easy to write on, and designed to allow the colors of the artwork to appear soft and painterly, much like the original piece.

At 4″ x 5.6″, the card is perfectly sized for sending thoughtful notes of gratitude, seasonal greetings, or warm autumn wishes. It also works beautifully as a small piece of art — something that can be tucked into a frame or displayed as part of a fall décor vignette.

Whether sent to a friend, included with a gift, or displayed in your home, Autumn’s Grateful Bloom is meant to capture the spirit of the harvest season — a reminder that gratitude, beauty, and abundance are often found in the quiet turning of the year.

From the fields and forests of autumn, with thanks. 🍂
